Things I learned

1- One of the most important things I learned is working in a team. Speaking to each other and looking for solutions that perfection our blog. It's fantastic interacting with the others, sometimes dificult but is something what we must reach.

2- Everything you post is going to affect to others. I mean, you should care about what you publish because everyone is able to see it.

3- It's important working every day, because if not then you have to post fast and it doesn't really work.

4- Listening to the teacher is important, because if you don't then you won't be able to feed the class in a good way.

5- I also learned to ad a video from youtube to the post.

6- I discovered different styles of music, and different tastes of my team mates.

7- I learned what is the hypertext and how to manage it.

8- And at last to respect the authority of the rights of the images that are shared online.

Recopilation

Since this is the last post I'll be doing on this site for a while ( sorry guys, got some new projects I need to take care off but I'll definetly try and come back every once in a while!) I decided to make a recopilation of all my posts here:

A small chat with Fran

I had the chance to speak with Fran Rodríguez, a friend of mine who plays Rock N' Roll in a band with other rock fans. Here is the interview.

Which instrument do you play?
With the band I only play the drums, but I play also the guitar.

When do you start playing both instruments?
I started with the guitar, on my own, two years ago. Then some friends asked me to play drums for his band. This group didn't work, but I decided to continue playing drums.

How did you learn to play drums?
I started to receive lessons this years.

How were the things in your first group?
It didn't work. We had personal problems between us. Then Luis -Rythm Guitar- and I decided to start another band. We spoke with Otal and Moroxo (friends of us) and also with Paula -singer-.

How many concerts have you given?
By the time, only 4. When you start it is very difficult to perform, but it's a matter of time I think.

How many musicians are in your group?
Five. Paula is the singer, Moroxo is the Leader Guitar, Otal with the Bass, Luis plays the Rythm Guitar and I play the drums.

Which songs do you play?
Spanish Rock, mainly. Leño, Barricada, Platero y Tú or Extremoduro. But sometimes we play some songs in English, and also Reggae. Each one has their own favourite songs, so we try to play different styles.

What groups do you listen to?
I like English groups between the '70s and the '90s. Led Zeppelin, U2, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimmy Hendrix or The Clash are my favourite groups. By the drums, I listen to Matt Cameron -Soundgarden-, Stewart Coppeland and Steve Gadd.

Will you ended as a junkie, just like some of your favourite musicians?
I don't think so. The only drug I consume is alcohol (beer). And you have to drink it a lot to become alcoholic.

I want to be a Rock N' Roll Star (as the song). Will you give me an advice?
It's not easy to play in a group. It takes a lot of hours and dedication. As AC/DC said: 'It's a long way to the top, if you wanna Rock N' Roll'. I can only say that go on and do your best.

At the moment you only play at an amateur level. Are you planning to become a professional musician?
It's something I wish, I love music. But beeing realistic, I think that's impossible. I have never study music. Maybe in a few years...

Finally, thanks for all. Luck!
Thank you!

10 things I learned with the blog

  1. I actually have another blog, in which I had written since 2008. I learned that a blog is another way to give information, sometimes more useful than a newspaper or a magazine.
  2. Bloggers normally write about topics that they like, so if you want to read a blog about a specific topic, you will read a blog written by a person who likes what he is writing and knows a lot about that topic.
  3. Blogs are popular because of interactivity. Readers can leave comments and be answered in real time (more or less). A conversation between writer and reader can be possible with blogs.
  4. Also, you can find another blogs very similar to yours, so it is a good way to make online friends and exchange information about one topic.
  5. In most of the cases, blogs are not made with the objective focused on earn money, but because of a hobby or entertainment.
  6. It is also a good way to exchange experiences, like this blog, in which five people talk about different kind of music. Grou
  7. It isn't necessary to have a lot of knowledgement about Internet to be a blogger. Platforms like Blogger or Wordpress help unexperienced people to familiarize with blogs.
  8. You are the boss of your blog. You decide what to create, what to share, how to do it... Absolute freedom.
  9. As a personal site, you can store links, posts or websites to organize your information or other's.
  10. It gives you the chance of write whatever you want. If you want to write something about a specific topic but you don't know where your articles can be published, the best option is to start writing in a blog.

An introduction to classic jazz

Hey there!

As I said in my first post  I'm going to talk about jazz.
I'm going to make you a summary about the main representative figures of jazz in the world:

We may divide the musicians in sections according to the instrument they play. So I am going to start with the pianists:

The jazz pianist is part pianist, part composer and part arranger. In addition to "traditional" pianistic skills, jazz pianists must also be able to improvise, harmonize melodies, instantly transpose, and create accompaniments in a variety of styles. They must also have highly developed rhythmic skills and be able to "swing."
Oscar Peterson is one of the most famous jazz pianists. He was baptized as the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington -I'm going to talk about him later-.

We have also Thelonious Monk, who probably is one of the most imitated models of jazz pianists nowadays with Duke Ellington. He was considered "one of the giants of American music".

And the third one is going to be Bill Evans, who was another american pianist. He is considered by some to be the most influential post World War II jazz pianist.

As every one would know, one of the most important instruments in jazz music is the saxophone. It is also known as "sax". It is esential in any jazz composition because of the sound it emits.
I'm going to refered you two musicians who play the sax in a jazz way: one of them is John Coltrane. He influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant tenor saxophonists in jazz history.

The other saxophonist is Charlie Parker. He played a leading role in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuoso technique, and improvisation based on harmonic structure.

Trumpeters are very important too, in fact all the instruments are important in a jazz composition because altogether form a very special atmosphere. Two of the most important trumpeters in this style of music are: Miles Davies, who had played with all the great figures of classic jazz:

And Dizzy Gillespie, who was also a bandleader, singer, and composer. He is known together with Charlie Parkers as the promoter of the bebop style:

In guitar, Joe Pass is the most distinguished jazz guitarist, and he also contributed to the exit of the bebop style:

In jazz we must to emphasize the work of some musicians who not only played one instrument but some more:
Duke Ellington was a prominent figure in the history of jazz, he played in all the styles of jazz as he contributed to the spread of this genre. His career spanned more than 50 years. And he also leaded a very famous orchestra.

Benny Goodman, known as the "King of swing", led one of the most popular musical groups in America: the Benny Goodman's orchestra and he contributed with the jazz to the fight against racism in America:

And, the last but no least, I must talk about jazz singers, who put the end note to jazz music with their fabulous voices:
Billie Holiday, known as "Lady Day" was a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. She co-wrote only a few songs, but several of them have become jazz standards.

Also, in feminine voices there is Ella Fitzgerald, the most important jazz singer together with Louis Armstrong, both of them are known as the Great Singers of Jazz, they, though you don't have any idea of jazz music, must be known by you:

Well, this have been an introduction to jazz, of course there are more other famous and very good musicians in this style but I hope you would get to know them after reading and listening to the ones above.

And remember one thing: "it don't mean a thing if ain't got that swing..."

Some good songs

Hello everybody,

Today I am going to post some good sogs.

The first one is: All Time Low by The Wanted. I really like this group and their first single All Time Low. The Wanted are a new British boy band based in London. Their upcoming debut studio album is scheduled for release on October 25, 2010.

The second song I want to let you know is: Hollywood by Michael Buble, who is one of my favourite singers. With this song, Michael criticize the actual world of Hollywood and it's new celebrities. I suggest you to watch the video, it is incredible.

Here you can see a funny moment of the video where Michael Buble is dress up as Justin Bieber on Oprah's TV show.

The next song is: Hidden Away by Josh Groban, which is one of my favourites songs. Listen to it because it is a very good song.

Finally I recomend you this other song, De que me sirve la vida by Camila (one of my favourites groups), which is in my partner Paco's post, where he explained very well the song.

I remaind you to check some blogs about pop music (my last week post) to see the latest news, videos and songs.

The best AC/DC videos

Australian band AC/DC released two years ago their last album (Black Ice) and finished its World Tour this summer. Despite of the age of their members, AC/DC still plays good Rock. Today I'll write something about the best videos of AC/DC. I have to say that this is a personal compilation, and you may disagree with my thoughts.

Jailbreak: The song was included in the album '74 Jailbreak and was released in 1976. Phil Rudd (bass) and Bon Scott appear dressed as prisoners, Mark Evans(drums) and Malcolm Young as guards, and Angus Young dressed in what he later described as "little convict pajamas". Jailbreak is one of the first videos which used explosives and fake blood. Lyrics

It's a Long Way to the Top (If you Wanna Rock N' Roll): Another video recorded in 1976. In it, the band goes through Melbourne streets in a truck with three bagpipers (singer Bon Scott played the bagpipe, too). This song was released in 1975 in the T.N.T album. Lyrics

>

Let There Be Rock: One of the last videos recorded with the former vocalist Bon Scott (who died in 1980) and marked the debut of new bassist Cliff Williams. It was filmed in a church and all the musicians were dressed as priest or altar boys. Lyrics

Shoot to Thrill: Although the song was recorded in 1980, it was included in the Iron Man 2 official soundtrack, and was played in their last world tour. In the video appear scenes from the film, but also parts of a concert given in Buenos Aires last year. Lyrics

You Shook Me All Night Long: Particulary my favourite song of the Australian band, you can hear this song in the Back in Black album (1980) and has a particulary message who is reflected in the videoclip, recorded in singer Brian Johnson's home town, Newcastle (England). The scenes with the leader girls riding bicycles were censored. Lyrics

If you want to know all the new information online, just visit Google News. Also, I recommend you to visit my first post.

HALO

As I said in my first post, music can represent every feeling that human body can experiment. That's why we listen to a song, because what we really want is to feel identified with it.

In this case, the song that I'm going to analyze today is named Halo of the artist Beyonce. This song tries to express the incredible feeling that a human could feel, which is called love, but real love.

The singer tries to express what she feels inside her heart, she compares the boy with an angel, which shows us that the girl really fall in love. And when you think that no word can supply the other, in the bridge she says “You know you're my saving grace”, can any word say more than this one? It's like you're everything and you've saved my soul.

People says that real love is the one that changes in some way your life and perfections your worst points, the one that tries to get the best of yourself. In fact, Beyonce has done a video where she sows all the points that I'm talking about, and if you fix you're attention in the way that both look each other you will see how the power of love interacts with them.

After all, that's the magic of music, the most enigmatic thing you could ever find.

And If you wanna listen to other tipes of music I recommend my blog team mates: pop and latin.

Weekly songs and bonus!

In my first blog post, I stated that I would have a weekly song, after a couple of weeks there has only been one song and that is unacceptable. Therefore today I will not only post two songs, one by mexican pop group Camila and the second by mexican singer Alejandro Fernandez. As well as posting the videos at the end of the post I will also share with you some music blog recomendations by my fellow team member Javi.

The first video you will find is a song called 'De que me Sirve la vida', which is a song I particularly relate to since it speaks about going far from home. It is performed by Mexicos new hit group, Camila. The second is another latin pop song that is heavily influenced by mexicos traditional 'ranchera' music. It's called 'Se me va la voz' and its performed by the son of the legendary singer Vicente Fernandez, Alejandro Fernandez, who is now a star by his own right.

Analyzing blogs

Hey there!
I am going to show you some blogs about music so you can learn more about this jazz music and discover its fantastic sound and different styles.
The first blog I am going to suggest is Simplemente jazz

I think it is a good example of how a jazz blog must be because not only talks about classic jazz and its influences, instead, it shows to the reader the new jazz bands of nowadays and it describes some concerts and review them as a musician critic must do.

The second blog is about a subgenre of jazz: soul : Musica soul

I've chosen this blog because it  explains the starts of the soul music and how it begun to spread out all around the world and how it turned onto a new succesful style of jazz, more worried on its lyrics - that tried to show different kinds of feelings- than on its music.
Also we have this one which only talks about the queens of this music : Classic soul sisters

The third blog is about blues: Blues Comentado

It doesn't have so many posts on it but I think that the posts it has are very interesting in an informative way about the history of blues. Also it has a lot of links to other blogs that contain information about the blues nowadays.

And the last blog I'm going to suggest you is one of my favourite blogs of this style : jazz, funk and soul

It has a lot of variety in it because it talks about funk too which is an evolution of this music I am talking about, it is known- above all- by the teenagers because it tries to express the feelings of young people nowadays.

I think they all are interesting for a person who wants to be introduced to the world of this "black" music - as it was known at its very beginning.

Other music sites.

There has never been a shortage of music infested/related sites on the internet. Still, as with most things quantity doesn't always mean quality, with that in mind I have found a few good enough sites that talk about the music that people listen to in latin america.

In first place we have Terra's top ten ranking of the songs most often played in the radio in several latin american countries as well as the US and in Spain. This is a site I like, mostly because it allows you to compare what people are listening to in different countries and helps you realize the difference of tastes people in the America's have.

The second site I would like to recommend is Ritmoson. Ritmoson is moslty a music news site which focuses mostly on latin american aritsts or artists coming to Latin America.

Another good site to visit is Latinazo, which is a news music blog, despite its obvious lack of resources compared to Terra or Ritmoson, the truth is that it offers almost daily updates on the happenings of latin artists and any new releases.

The final site I would like to recommend is another blog, Tu Musica Latina probably the most unimpressive of all four sites, this blog focuses mostly on up and coming latin american groups.

There are many other music sites which can be found in the internt, but I choose this 5 because they each offer a different perspective and approach to latin american music. Still, if any of you think I have left out an important site or find a good site please let me know and I'll be happy to update the list.

Some blogs related with this topic (pop music)

As the title says, I am going to show you some blogs about pop music and I am going to analize them saying if like them or not and why.

The first blog I am going to talk about is http://popdirt.com/ this blog contains a lot of news, gossip, videos, photos, etc. But it doesn't talk about music at all and that is the main reason why I don't like it. In my opinion, if you make a blog about music, you have to talk about music first and then if you want you can talk about gossip or whatever, but the main topic should be music. I recomend this blog to people who are interested in gossip and news about pop celebrities.

The second blog I am going to analize is Pop Love Dance: this blog is focused on the latest pop updates, they give opinions, song reviews, album reviews, etc. I think it is a very good blog because you can see what people think about songs or albums, also because you can listen to the lastest hits or watch your favourite group videoclips. I recomend to everyone, I think it is really interesting and it is worth to enter and see the blog.

Now, I am going to talk about is We Are Pop Slags. This blog is the one I like the most, I think it is perfect and I recomend it to everyone. Here you can find a lot of songs, videos, news... Everything is very well organize and clear. Here you have the lastest news related with pop music and singers, their new songs and videos, etc. In my opinion is the best because of the variety of information, the good organization and the numerous posts you can find on it.

And finally I am going to talk about poptastic, this is a blog where you can find news, photos, videos, songs, etc. It is similar to Pop Love Dance and We Are Pop Slags. But in my opinion I prefer the We Are Pop Slags one because it is more complete, but there anyway, this blog is also good.

Analyzing webs

I have selected 4 different music webs and I have analyzed them.

Stone Alone

In the Stone Alone blogspot they analyze rock music. Every post talks about a different celebritie or song that they haver heard. What the writer wants is to be near the one who is reading his post, but he doesn’t pay attention at the vocabulary used. I guess that he wants to be very confident with the others, but it isn’t necessary to make an excess. A good thing that I notice is that he really knows about what he is talking about, he mentions many different singers, and that reflects his musical culture. I do not really recommend it.

Sonico Music

The blog of Sonico Musica is one of the bests that I’ve seen. It’s a perfect demostration of how should be a music blog. I like it because it has got everything that a person must know of music in his/her current days. So I recommend it.Pop Music

This blog is about pop music and relates songs with our daily day, what I think that is very important. Because this way you can feel more identificated with the song which is capable to represent your story. I recommend it, because I reckon that people need to identificate himselfs with music.

Planeta Pop

Planeta Pop Radio is a blogspot which I don’t want to recommend, I think that more people would agree with my thinking because there are currently no comments. It’s like insipid, without really context or interesting information.

Five rock websites

In this post I would like to recommend five or the most important blogs or websites about Rock music.

First of all, Rolling Stone Magazine is a reference in the newspaper/magazine world. The best news of Rock music, advanced items of the paper issue, interviews and special articles such as the best bands or singers of all time.

Spanish diary El Mundo hosts in his digital edition a blog about Rock music, named Sexo, Drogas y Rock&Blog, in which Quico Alsedo writes about Spanish or International bands, even if they are famous or not.

Another blog written by a journalist is R'n'R Animal, by J. F. León. Here you can read very interesting articles about festivals and new or old bands.

In RockrockBlog you can find several bootlegs of lots of groups. A bootleg is a not officially released song by a band. This blog offers you the posibility of download this kind of CD's or songs.

Finally, if you like concerts or events like this, I recommend you to add the official website of Rock In Rio to your blogroll. It is one of the most famous music festivals, with bands like Metallica or Motorhead rocking at high power.

Introducing the team: Ana López-Rúa Carral

Hi!

I'm Ana and I'm from La Coruña, a small city in the coast of Galicia- North of Spain-. I'm 17 years old and I'm starting to study Comunicación Audiovisual (Fcom) at Navarra's University.

This blog was born with the idea of expressing our feelings through music 'cause we think music is present in every moment of our lives. It is very important not only for us, but for the history of the world, it marked many of the decades of the past century. Who doesn't know who were The Beatles or ABBA? Music had accompanied us from its very beggining and it will still doing it 'till its very end.

We are five students creating this blog and each of us is going to focus in one style of music. I'm going to write about this kind of music which was born in New Orleans, the largest city in the state of Lousiana- USA-, : jazz. And also I will included information about blues and soul, which are relationated with jazz.

I'll tried to make my posts interesting and mix the general information with songs and videos so it becomes more entertain and- who knows?- maybe you will end up loving the music I'll show you :)

Introducing the team: Javier Muruzábal Cuevas

Hello,
My name is Javier Muruzábal Cuevas I am from Pamplona and I am studying Audiovisual Communication (Fcom) at Navarra University. I am one of the five students that are going to write in this blog.

The theme of the blog is music, but each member of the group is going to focus on a different genre, mine is Pop.
I have chosen Pop music because I love it and is the one that makes me feel good. Some of my favourites singers are Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jason Derulo, Michael Buble...

Music makes our lifes better and we want to share with you our feelings when we listen to it. Without music our lifes will make no sense because music is very important for us
Each member of the group will post songs, videos and some other things related with music weekly.
Hope you like it.

Introducing the team: Carlos Pérez

My name is Carlos, I'm from Murcia but I live in Pamplona because I'm studying journalism at UNAV. In this blog, I will write about Rock. There are some famous groups who have played this kind of music for a long time, such as The Who, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC or Deep Purple. It is a powerful kind of music, full of energy, with great guitarists playing their electric guitars at a high level. Also, drums and bass appear in almost all Rock bands.

The Who playing in the Seventies

Rock is a subgenre of Rock N' Roll, which has its origins in the 40s and 50s. Jazz, Blues and R&B were modified to get a different style, which continued in 60s. Rock N' Roll divided into several genres, such as Rock, Rockabilly, Heavy Metal, Indie or Punk. It appeared in America, but fastly became popular in Great Britain. Actually, many experts explains that The Beatles were the greatest rock band ever.

I also have another blog, in which I write about football things. It is FutbolPérez. If you like this sport you should have a look at it!

To conclude, I will recommend you a great song by Rolling Stones, named Sympathy for the Devil.

Pleased to met you!

If you want to read more about Rock history you can visit the following sites:

Introducing the team, Patricia Pallarés

My name is Patricia Pallarés,18 years old, I'm a journalist student at University of Navarra and one of the five members that take part of this blog. What we want to do with this blog is to express how music interacts with our daily lives. It's more than just talking about a theme or dealing about it, our objetive is to get a feedback from our readers. The conclusion that we came up with while dicussing the theme of this blog was, that if music dissapeared our lives would be empty.

For me music can illustrate every feeling during the day but the same song can mean two different things to two people because every one is special in his own way. I'ts easy to understand why music has been so important throughout history, imagine that something happened during your day, it's possible that someone experimented something similar even if it was not the exact same thing. Then that person wrote a song that you listened to and felt related towards and that you feel you can apply to your life. Because after all it's your day, your emotion, your sensation....thats why everyone has their own song each day of their lives.

Introducing the team, Paco Hinojosa

Hello there, my name is Paco Hinojosa, I'm 20 years old and I'm a mexican student currently starting his journalism major at Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. I'm one of five team members who will be making contributions to this blog. The theme as you might have figured out from the title will be music. Each of us will bring a different genre to the table and will present you with a weekly song within that genre as well as some other contributions. We decided to do this because we feet that music is a huge part of our lives and that it is hard to believe the amount of genres and songs that can express the same thought, idea or feeling.
My genre will be latin music or more specifically the music that we compose and listen to in Latin America. I hope I speak for all team members when I say that we hope you will not only read and enjoy this blog but that you will interact with us by leaving your comments, suggestions, complaints and congratulations for us.

Besides music, I also love sports and writing about them and I hope to someday be involved in that business. My favourite sports are football and soccer, and I usually root for Miami Dolphins in the NFL, Florida State Seminoles in the NCAA, FC Barcelona in the Spanish football League and Club América in Mexico's first division.

Despite this only being the introductory post here is a song which shows the type of music I'll be talking about and posting:
